Inquiry must be led by a lawyer to ensure it is independent and impartial – Jeremy Corbyn responds to Priti Patel bullying allegations

Responding to allegations of bullying made against the Home Secretary, including from a former member of staff who received a £25,000 payout, Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn said:

“Serious allegations have been made against the Home Secretary, and previous allegations are now also coming to light.

“It is right that an inquiry into these allegations should take place but this inquiry must not be led by the Minister for the Cabinet Office, enabling the government to mark its own homework – a situation which will not fill the public with any confidence that such investigations would be impartial and objective.”

“The inquiry into these allegations and the Home Secretary’s conduct must be independent and led by a lawyer to ensure confidence that this inquiry is objective, impartial and leaves no stone unturned.”
