Naz Shah MP, Shadow Women and Equalities Minister, commenting on the Muslim Council of Britain submitting a new dossier on Islamophobia in the Conservative Party, said:
“After polling showing the majority of Conservative Party members hold Islamophobic and bigoted views, this dossier further demonstrates that racism is rife within their Party and goes right to the top. It must be properly and independently investigated.
“It is no surprise the Tories are not taking action against this vile bigotry. Boris Johnson himself described Islamophobia as a ‘natural reaction’, and there was a 375% increase in hate crime towards Muslim women after he described them as ‘letterboxes’ and ‘bank robbers’.
“Johnson’s rhetoric has emboldened the far right to openly abuse and attack Muslims and our communities across the country, and by refusing to take action, the Tories are fanning the flames of this hatred and division in our society.”
