Daniel Zeichner MP, Labour’s Shadow Farming Minister, commenting on the government’s response to the Charles Godfray Bovine TB Strategy Review, said:

“We have repeatedly called for an end to the unscientific and inhumane badger cull, so it is welcome that the Government is finally taking steps to bring this unprecedented destruction of British wildlife to an end.

“Since the Godfray report in 2018, tens of thousands of badgers have been destroyed, and it looks like the government plans to spend millions more of taxpayers’ money killing tens of thousands more in the coming years.

“The cull must end much more quickly, alongside effective measures to control and reduce this costly and terrible disease: improved cattle testing, vaccinating badgers and better controls on the movement of herds.”
