Commentating on new research published today (Friday 13 March) by Income Data Research (IDR) that manufacturing workers are receiving larger pay rises than other sectors, Unite’s assistant general secretary for manufacturing Steve Turner said:
“Fair pay for manufacturing workers is a direct result of the well documented trade union premium.
“Workplaces, including the majority across the manufacturing sector, which are well organised with a strong, confident trade union membership, have consistently been shown to pay better and treat their workforce more fairly.
“The single biggest reason that workers join unions is to ensure that they benefit from a fair deal at work and pay is part of that deal, achieved through collective bargaining.”
