Buses remain in operation to ensure that health care, NHS and all workers categorised as ‘essential’ by government are able to travel safely to and from work. However, with a massive prolonged reduction in the use of bus services, Unite initiated talks with First Glasgow in order to implement a reduced working pattern which will mean two weeks on and two weeks off. The new arrangement means that workers will receive 90 per cent of their wages going forward.

Wendy Dunsmore, Unite regional industrial officer, said: ” The new working arrangement put in place between First Glasgow and the workforce is one that was jointly agreed to with Unite. We are pleased that First Glasgow has acted as a responsible employer not only to its workforce but the wider public. The early feedback we are getting is that workers are happy with these new arrangements as it significantly reduces the exposure to COVID-19 as well as giving financial security.”
