I’ve had quite a number of emails from worried constituents today. Most bosses are doing the right thing but it is clear a selfish minority are not. I have had constituents say they are required to go to work because their boss is stretching the rules to keep their shop open and employees are having requests to work at home denied. These bosses are putting profit before health. It is not good enough for the government just to tell workers to speak to their employer, this isn’t going to be fixed by a cosy chat. Employees need the government to set up an independent point of contact so they can raise their concerns and then these matters can be taken up with employers. Better still of course, they should join a trade union.
