Andy McDonald MP, Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary, commenting on the lack of PPE for Airport and Border Staff, said:
“Airport and Border Force staff, given their working proximity with passengers, are being unnecessarily exposed to risks with little attention to ensure social protection measures are in place.
“Staff are also extremely uneasy at the lack of testing of passengers as they land and disembark and then navigate through our airports. Passengers continue to arrive for all manner of non-emergency purposes without any testing or consideration of any coronavirus symptoms, putting the public’s safety at risk.
“Airport operators and the government need to listen to the very real and legitimate concerns of staff and make sure that appropriate quantities of the suitable PPE are quickly made available to all our airport staff on the frontline.“
