Unite Scotland has secured a deal for 60 heavy goods vehicle and tanker drivers employed by Carntyne Transport to be furloughed on full pay.
The Springburn (Glasgow) based logistics firm which is part of the Russell Group employs around 300 drivers. The company – following negotiations with Unite – agreed to furlough 60 drivers under the terms of the UK government’s coronavirus job retention scheme on full pay.
Unite regional officer Linda Wilson said: “The deal agreed for 60 heavy goods vehicle and tanker drivers with Cartyne Transport is great news. The company have engaged constructively with Unite to ensure that those drivers who are not required at the moment due to a drop in demand are furloughed under the government’s retention scheme but also on full pay. We hope this will be an example to all other firms in the sector on how to treat its workforce and to stand by them after the loyal service the drivers provide.”
