Jo Stevens MP, Labour’s Shadow Shadow Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, responding to the latest ABC figures, said:
“While these figures show sales held up before the lockdown, we know the worst is still to come.
“We’ve already seen the collapse of the Jewish Chronicle and Jewish News, regional and national outlets around the country furloughing their staff and some publications ceasing printing altogether.
“We are urging the Government to help by using its Public Information Service to advertise critical COVID-19 public health information.
“This would both help boost news outlets’ finances and ensure a trusted source of information reaches as wide an audience as possible.”
