In response to research published by IFS showing that key workers’ hourly wages are 8% lower on average than other employees, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Employment Rights and Protections, Andy McDonald MP said:
“In recent weeks we have seen how much we depend upon those key workers whom have been undervalued for far too long.
“Cleaners, carers, and refuse collectors are just a few of those we rely on for the most essential things that keep our society running, and who are now routinely putting their lives on the line to get us through this crisis.
“It is only fair that we redress the great debt that we owe them, by boosting workers’ wages, conditions and rights.”
