Lucy Powell MP, Labour’s Shadow Business and Consumers Minister, commenting on the Which? Investigation showing that the UK’s biggest travel operators and airlines are openly breaking the law on refunds for cancelled holidays said:
“Labour recognises the pressure the travel industry is under at this unprecedented time, but it is the responsibility of travel operators not short change consumers. Where travel operators have already paid out funds for holidays, some flexibility may be necessary to allow for business liquidity. Where credit notes are issued, customers must be offered a like-for-like product, and government must protect these from insolvency. Where this is not the case, refunds must be honoured.
“With no clear end to the lockdown, the Government must step in to ensure that consumer rights are protected while doing more to strengthen support for the travel industry through this difficult time.”
