Marsha de Cordova reacts to PHE’s call to risk assess frontline BAME staff

Marsha De Cordova MP, Labour’s Shadow Women and Equalities Secretary, commenting on Public Health England’s call to risk assess all frontline BAME staff, said:

“The number of BAME NHS staff who have lost their lives as a result of Covid-19 is staggering.

“It is right that Public Health England has finally called for NHS Trusts to assess BAME staff as being at greater risk to the virus.

“Reports that almost three quarters of NHS and social care staff who have died of Covid 19 are from a BAME background, show that more must urgently be done to support BAME workers at the frontline. That is why Labour has launched a review into the impact of Covid 19 on BAME people, including NHS and Care staff.”
