Justin Madders MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, commenting on reports the UK Government did not formally ask Turkey for help with a PPE shipment until Sunday despite claiming it was on its way, said:

“The Government really needs to move away from making big announcements at its daily press conferences if it cannot be sure that what it says will actually happen.

“Whether it is the number of tests per day, ventilator capacity or deliveries of protective equipment, too often Ministers’ promises are not being delivered.

“The public need and deserve a candid, realistic appraisal of the situation not spin and exaggeration.”
